Job Purpose and Scope: 
Prepare pipe for installation, assure all pipe is installed correctly, and remain alert for potential hazards in the work area, including unmarked utilities, cracks in the walls of trenches or improper grade of trench.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

​-Be alert to job site, other people and equipment in order to complete tasks safely.
-Assure that all safety equipment, tools, parts and pipe are at the work area.
-Check pipe, gaskets and accessories for defects.
-Assist with establishing grades and the set up and use of the laser.
-Watch and observe for unmarked utilities and poor wall conditions as the trench is being dug.
-Grade ditch for pipe, measure and cut pipe, and work with laborers to install the pipe correctly.
-Learn more complicated pipe installation techniques, including bends, adapters, tie rods, etc.
-Be aware of schedule so that tasks may be completed in a timely manner.
-Assist with other tasks as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements:

​​One year of experience as a pipelayer is required, or one year of experience as a laborer and two years working with a plumber.  Ability to operate pipe saw, shovel and hand tools is required, along with ability to learn to operate loader and rammax.  A pipelayer who can set up the pipe laser, calculate grades, and lay gravity systems to grade is a plus.  Position requires accuracy, alertness, communication skills, problem solving skills and arithmetic. 


Physical Requirements:

​Position requires the ability to stand 50% of time and walk 50% of the time.  Physical demands may include balancing, pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching, carrying, lifting at least 50 pounds.  Working conditions are outside and wet, dirty, hot/humid, dusty, cold, noisy with hazards.

Assist pipelayers with installation of pipe.  Assist with shovel and hand-digging and job site cleanup. Be alert for potential hazards in the work area, including unmarked utilities, cracks in the walls of trenches or improper grade of trench.

-Use shovel and hand tools as necessary to prepare the site for the installation of pipe or to locate pipe and other utilities.
-Work with pipelayers to install pipe correctly.  Assist them as necessary to assure efficient and accurate installation of pipe.
-Be aware of schedule so that tasks may be completed in a timely manner.
-Assist with other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Ability to regularly use shovel and hand tools is required.  Ability to learn to operate pipe saw, loader and rammax is necessary.  Position requires accuracy, alertness and ability to communicate with other crew members and work as a team.

Job Purpose and Scope: 
Utilize personnel and equipment to achieve project completion in the safest manner possible while keeping labor and construction costs to a minimum or below budget and completing the project early or on time.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
-Organize and staff crew. 
-Review productivity requirements daily with your supervisor; adjust crew personnel as appropriate.
-Train and cross train your crew to assure all members of crew have the ability to do all jobs, if necessary.
-Maintain quality control of line and grades, including laser set-up and grade adjustment.
-Constantly monitor project safety, including soil, water, traffic, other people, equipment, etc.
-Responsible for the quality of the job, including compaction, testing and appearance.
-Read plans daily to remain familiar with job scope and requirements.
-Complete Daily Timesheets daily to assure detail and accuracy.
-Review material requirements daily with supervisor to assure all materials are ordered and will arrive on the job as needed.
-Review project conditions daily to monitor changes in conditions of rock, soil, or stone bedding.
-Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of the truck and equipment assigned.
-Operate all equipment, including loader, grader, etc., as necessary, to complete tasks on the jobsite.
-Attend competent person training class, CPR and First Aid training, etc., as requested.

Qualifications:

Education:  A High School Diploma or equivalent or 2 years of supervisory experience in a construction environment. 
Experience:  Prefer 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in installation of underground water, sewer and storm drain utilities. 
Licenses:  A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.  
Job Knowledge:  Requires ability to read plans and specifications with comprehension.  Proficiency with laser set-up, including both pipe laser and spin top.  Proficiency with grade calculations, with horizontal and vertical control.  Ability to operate heavy equipment, including excavator and wheel loader, etc.
Skills:  Position requires accuracy, alertness, problem solving skills, arithmetic, analytical ability, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.


Physical Requirements:

​Position requires the ability to sit 50% of the time and walk or stand 50% of the time.  Physical demands may include balancing, pushing, climbing, pulling, stooping, reaching, carrying, lifting up to 75 pounds.  Working conditions are outside and dry or wet with inadequate light, dirty, hot/humid, dusty, cold, noisy with hazards.

Operate loader, excavator, grader and other equipment as required on the job site.  Be aware of the schedule and assist crew as needed with other tasks in order to complete daily production goals.

-Operate all equipment, including loader, excavator, grader, etc., to complete tasks on the job site.
-Be aware of schedule so that tasks may be completed in a timely manner.
-Be alert to job site, other people and equipment to assure that all safety procedures are followed in order to complete tasks safely.
-Assist crew with laying pipe, cleanup, etc. as needed.
-Attend competent person training class, CPR and First Aid training, etc., as requested.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Requires 3 years of experience operating a loader and excavator in a construction environment.  Completion of an Equipment Operator training program at a technical college is helpful.  A valid NC drivers’ license with a good driving record is a plus.  Position requires alertness, communication skills, problem solving skills, and ability to efficiently operate appropriate equipment.
